Spring Rock in Wadi Rum, Jordan

 

Close to the Red sea in the heart of the Jordanian desert sand stone towers reach up as high as 600m. This compact sandstone with it’s perfect cracks, flakes and honey combs is a traditional climbers paradise.  On each of these summits there are several climbs from hard to moderate, a level of 5+ - 6a is sufficient.

A 4X4 drive, chauffeur and Bedouin cook will accompany us throughout the safari

Itinerary

Day 1
Fly to Aman
Taxi to Wadi Rum (overnight hotel accomodation)

Day 2
Our first day in the desert with a warm up climb no harder than grade 5  with a spectacular descent over the surprising Burdha arch. (overnight Bedouin camp)

Day 3
A walk along Bedouin trails through magnificent canyons leading to a crack climb (6a 200m) of great variation and excellent rocks.
Night in the village

Day 4
Ascent of Djebel Rum
The normal route or the Pilier de la Sagesse

The Djebel Rum is the highest peak of the region.  We will climb it either by the Hammad’s route (5/800m) a magnificent climb complex and esthetique, or by the Pilier de la Sagesse (6a/600m).  Overnight bivouac near the summit in a little stone hut.

Day 5
Descent of Djembel Rum
An adventurous descent through domes and canyons until we reach the village for a well-earned rest.
Drive to Barah Canyon and camp.

Day 6
Barah canyon, Merlin’s Wand 6a/200m.  A unique unbroken crack that stretches up for a full 200m an incredible line.
Overnight in Bedouin camp

Day 7
Barah canyon, Star of Abu Judaidah.  Cracks of all sizes make this climb a must!
Overnight in Bedouin camp

Day 8
Jebel Rum, Flight of Fancy.  Our last climb only a few minutes from the village

Day 9
Return to Aman and flight home

Fee

1 to 2 people 380 euros per day
3 to 4 people 500 euros per day
